Windows and Doors Grants in Ireland: What External Wrap Customers Should Know
Windows and doors grants are now part of the retrofit conversation
Windows and external doors are common weak points in older homes. Even after wall insulation is improved, draughty doors and poor glazing can still reduce comfort and keep heating demand higher than it needs to be.
SEAI's current individual grants page lists support of up to €4,000 for windows and up to €1,600 for doors. SEAI's One Stop Shop grant table also lists external doors at €800 per door, with a maximum of two doors.
Why insulation still comes first for many homes
The windows and doors grant is designed for homes that already have good wall and roof insulation, or that are upgrading insulation before or at the same time. In practice, this means external wall insulation can be the key step that makes a window and door upgrade more effective.
What new windows and doors must achieve
SEAI guidance for windows and doors refers to high-performing units, with a required U-value of 1.4 W/m2K or better. A post-works BER is also required after the windows and doors are installed.
How External Wrap customers should plan
If you are considering external insulation, new windows, and new doors, plan the details together. Window position, reveals, cills, thresholds, airtightness, and drainage details all affect the finished result.
